Abstract

Seit einigen Jahren gibt die Bundesregierung den Forderungen nach Einführung eines Mindestlohns in verschiedenen Branchen mehr und mehr nach. Am Ende könnte ein flächendeckender Mindestlohn stehen. Die Stiftung Marktwirtschaft warnt in ihrem neuen Positionspapier davor, diesen Weg zu beschreiten. Zum einen bedrohen Mindestlöhne, die über der Produktivität von Arbeitnehmern liegen, absehbar vorhandene Arbeitsplätze. Zum anderen sind sie auch als Instrument der Armutsbekämpfung denkbar ungeeignet. Mindestlöhne passen - wie andere staatliche Preisvorgaben auch - nicht in das ordnungspolitische System der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft. Zudem können sie zum Spielball politischer Forderungen und Wahlversprechen werden.
