Ein Biotop ist der Lebensraum einer Lebensgemeinschaft von bestimmter Mindestgröße und einheitlicher, gegen die Umgebung abgrenzbarer Beschaffenheit. Die Kartierung und Bewertung von Biotoptypen ist eine wichtige Grundlage für Naturschutz und Landschaftsplanung.
