Cuidadores informais: a (in)formação no cuidado ao idoso

Abstract

Atualmente, em Portugal e no mundo, tem-se observado um acentuado aumento do número de idosos e da longevidade dos mesmos. Devido a este fenómeno, cada vez são mais os estudos sobre o envelhecimento e todos os temas associados. Preocupados com o bem-estar e com a saúde dos idosos surgem os cuidadores informais que dedicam o seu tempo, muitas vezes total, na prestação de cuidados aos seus familiares. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo compreender as dificuldades sentidas por cada cuidador, as suas motivações, preocupações, bem como a forma de ultrapassar as mesmas. Para isto, foram realizadas entrevistas a 14 cuidadores informais primários e questionários a 30 cuidadores informais secundários e terciários do concelho de Leiria. Desta forma, conseguimos caracterizar os cuidadores informais e os idosos a seu cuidado e percebemos as necessidades económicas e/ou sociais, as implicações causadas pela prestação de cuidados e o nível de formação que cada cuidador apresenta. Em jeito de conclusão, observámos que a formação não é a maior necessidade apontada pelos cuidadores informais, mas sim o apoio social, familiar e económico que permitiria a estes cuidadores uma menor sobrecarga física e emocional, bem como menores implicações pessoais e profissionais.
