Tendinopatia do Tendão Rotuliano

Abstract

Patellar tendinopathy is a common injury in certain sports, that forces a temporary withdrawal from competitive sports and can lead to a premature end of their career. The diagnosis is essentially clinic and imaging exams have little correlation with clinic, although individuals with imaging findings are more susceptible of developing this injury. The risk factors and physiopathology are not well understood, which leads to several therapeutical options. Essentially a degenerative pathology, the first-line treatment has been excentric exercise, and even with this treatment, returning to competition isn’t assured. Surgical treatment is considered the last resource and it’s only used when conservative management isn’t effective. The aim of this dissertation is to elaborate an updated bibliographic review about patellar tendinopathy, presenting recent scientific data about its etiolgy, epidemology and physiopathology. To understand its complications and to analyze the existing treatments and emerging therapies.
