Abstract

The present work aimed to relate with the development of a better understanding about the influence of psychosocial dimensions and variables in the psychological adjustment process between individuals and their chronic pathology. The study had a non-experimental design, with data being collected via self-administered questionnaires. The sample from this study consisted of sixty subjects, diagnosed with Diabetes. With the study it was intended, firstly, to understand and evaluate possible differences between the group of men and women in the experience of symptoms of anxiety and depression. Secondly, it was tried through this study the assessment of the overall role of the social support and its dimensions (emotional social support, instrumental social support and informational social support) in the experience of symptoms of anxiety and depression. The study aimed also, on third place, to identify which working conditions and accommodations at workplace would be considered important from subject’s point of view, as well as main problems encountered at workplace due to illness.
