Abstract

Introdução: A Oftalmopatia de Graves é uma manifestação auto-imune que ocorre em 90% dos pacientes com Doença de Graves, sendo mais frequente no sexo feminino. Caracteriza-se pela presença de edema palpebral, hiperemia conjuntival, prurido, lacrimejo excessivo, proptose, fotofobia, diplopia e dificuldade na motilidade ocular. Esta manifestação ocular é uma doença biopsicossocial que afecta drasticamente a qualidade de vida dos pacientes que sofrem desta patologia. O objectivo desta revisão bibliográfica foi analisar o efeito dos tratamentos desta doença sobre a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Metodologia: Revisão da literatura científica seleccionando os estudos relevantes para o tema, em língua portuguesa, inglesa, francesa e espanhola identificados na PubMed, b-on e no EUGOGO. Resultados: Nove artigos foram analisados durante a elaboração desta monografia, com um total de 931 pacientes. Todos estes estudos demonstraram um efeito positivo do tratamento da Oftalmopatia de Graves sobre a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Discussão/Conclusão: Apesar da escassa disponibilidade da literatura sobre o tema, os dados disponíveis sugerem que o tratamento da Oftalmopatia de Graves é eficaz e necessário para melhorar a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Os estudos também realçam a importância da educação e do aconselhamento psicológico no decorrer desta patologia.

Introduction: Graves 'ophthalmopathy is an autoimmune manifestation that occurs in 90% of patients with Graves' disease, more common in females. It is characterized by the presence of eyelid edema, conjunctival hyperemia, itching, excessive tearing, proptosis, photophobia, diplopia and difficulty in ocular motility. This ocular manifestation is a biopsychosocial disease that dramatically affects the quality of life of patients suffering from this disease. The purpose of this literature review is to analyze the effect of treatment of this disease on quality of life of patients. Methodology: Review of scientific literature selecting studies relevant to the theme, in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish language identified in PubMed, b-on and EUGOGO. Results: Nine articles were analyzed during the preparation of this monograph, with a total of 931 patients. All studies showed a positive effect of treatment of Graves' ophthalmopathy on quality of life of patients. Discussion / Conclusion: Despite the limited availability of literature on the theme, available data suggest that treatment of Graves' ophthalmopathy is effective and necessary to improve the quality of life of patients. The studies also highlighted the importance of education and counseling during this pathology.
