Abstract

The aim is to examine the link between tactile sense and architectural model, in spatial recognition in buildings for exhibitions. The purpose of the study is to assess inclusive strategies, for a spatial effectiveness, facing up the inherent precepts of normovisual, blind and low vision public, as usufructuaries of the built spaces. The methodology is spatial empirical observation, having as a tool the tactile model of architecture, confining the spectrum of work to a public key consisted by blind people, without prior knowledge of the area to assess. It is argued that the spectrum, because of the fact of not enjoying of one of the senses in contact with the built environment, is endowed with greater clearance of the others, particularly at the touch. It is suggested as a case of study areas for the public, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Serralves Foundation in Porto, developed by the Architect Siza Vieira. The choice is justified by the complexity of the work space and versatility of the interior spaces - spaces of temporary exhibition. The research has two essays: the first one explores the spatial orientation of the public with low vision; and, the second one the special orientation of the blind public, appealing to an tactile model of architectonic representation for an previous knowledge of the spaces, with the intention to making better the orientation of these in the visitor personage of the cited spaces; simultaneously the different stimulations are examined for the creation of representations tridimensional of architecture, with the target of defining better ways of production of these consult models. It is desired verify that the scale model, in the form of the tactile model, is a tool that allow increase the autonomy of blind people in contact with exposition spaces, and that its production depends on an ideology of production with protector character of touch.
