Turismo rural e desenvolvimento sustentável: o papel da arquitectura vernacular

Abstract

The present research embodies the holistic approach to the phenomenon of national tourism, addressing conceptual aspects on its scope as well as weaknesses of its system. On the other hand, tackles the role of tourism, not only in terms of adaptation to the dynamics and perspectives that frame the touristic activities in general, but also about the effects that it can generate in the fields of economy, society, culture, environment and territory. There is a particularization of tourism in rural areas as a factor of sustainable development, enabling the understanding of the changes occurred in the rural space, socially and in the form of use of the land. Standing out in this sense the sectoral programmation of the functioning of this environment (rural) towards the new challenges imposed in order to ensure a balanced development. This multifunctionality of tourism has been indicated by many authors as a characteristic that can contribute to local development in rural areas. The aim is in this way to demonstrate how tourism, revitalizing the rural settlements through methods and techniques based on sustainable development, with respect for ecological and aesthetic values of the landscape, can foreseeing a future where traditional practices are allied to scientific knowledge, with benefit for restructuring and sustainability of Rural Areas. For the restructuration of rural architectural heritage, a new approach is needed more aware and responsible for the architecture; due to the waste they are diagnosed in the current scenario. The vernacular architecture, presents itself in this area with an intrinsic relationship to the climate and geography of the place, proving to be a viable solution in search of a sustainable building.
