Espaço arquitetónicos dedicados ao culto religioso “Islâmico e cristão” persistência e continuidade

Abstract

Religious architecture is one of the essential elements of architecture, both in the West and in the East. In religious architecture, Christian and Islamic architecture deserve to be highlighted, due to their durability and influence that persists to this day. It is this persistence and impact that will be the focus of this study, in which the research analyzes religious architecture, highlighting Christian and Islamic traditions as fundamental components in urban and cultural development. The research examines issues relevant to the goals of religious organizations, the relationship between Christian and Islamic architecture, and their lasting influence on contemporary architecture. The dissertation, supported by qualitative methodologies and bibliographic research, analyzes the historical and cultural relevance of temples, churches, mosques and other sacred spaces. The chapters discuss the concepts of sacred space and the connection between spirituality and architecture. Cases such as the Umayyad mosques and Roman basilicas illustrate the aesthetic and functional changes in these buildings. The research also analyzes the impact of historical, environmental and cultural factors on Roman and Islamic urbanism, highlighting compliance with social and spiritual needs. The assessment investigates elements such as domes, mosaics, minarets and arabesques, highlighting the exchange of influences between Islamic and Christian traditions during periods of cultural coexistence. Islamic architecture stands out for its fusion of privacy, sustainability and aesthetic symbolism, while Christian architecture emphasizes verticality, lighting and religious iconography. In the end, the dissertation indicates that religious architecture remains a connection between the past and the present, shaping urban landscapes and encouraging contemporary innovations. The continuity of the principles of classical architecture reflects cultural and spiritual values that transcend historical contexts.
