Autoestima, Sintomas Psicopatológicos e Nomofobia em Estudantes Portugueses

Abstract

This dissertation was carried out within the scope of the 2nd year of the 2nd cycle of studies in Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Beira Interior and will be presented in the format of a scientific article, in accordance with the submission standards of the 3rd International Conferences on Clinical and Health Psychology from the University of Beira Interior. This project focuses on the assessment of Self-Esteem, Psychopathological Symptoms and Nomophobia in Portuguese students. More specifically, it aims to assess the levels of Self-Esteem and Psychopathological Symptoms in Nomophobia; compare these variables according to sociodemographic characteristics; correlate the variables Self-esteem, Psychopathological Symptoms and Nomophobia and, finally, determine the predictive power of Self-esteem and Psychopathological Symptoms in Nomophobia. The term nomophobia is still recent, and it defines the irrational fear of leaving home without a mobile phone, being an abbreviation of the expression “no-mobile-phonephobia”. Therefore, it’s important to study this variable and its interaction with the variables psychopathological symptoms and nomophobia. For a better understanding of the work conducted, this investigation consists of four parts. The first part concerns the introduction of the dissertation, the second part consists of chapter 1, in the third part a general discussion is held with the purpose of reflecting on the work conducted and in the fourth part the annexes are included, with an in-depth bibliographic review.
