Impacto da pandemia COVID-19 na sexualidade

Abstract

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which emerged in 2020, preventive measures have been taken to spread the disease, altering everyday life as we knew it. A change in work and family routines requires adaptive measures that can condition the mental state of individuals differently. In fact, mental health disorders can negatively influence various spheres of life, such as emotional relationships and sexual well-being. Since good sexual health is necessary to maintain a good general state of health, it is necessary to understand any changes in sexual and reproductive health between the pre- and post-pandemic periods. In addition, this thesis aims to understand the relationship between the emotional impact of lockdown and the sexual health of individuals. In other words, it is important to understand how the changes in daily life have affected mental health and their implications for sexual and reproductive health. For this work, several scientific and review articles were used, most of whose data was collected during the period of confinement. It was found that, in general, there were changes in the sexual behavior of the samples, both with a partner and in non-face-to-face activities or without a partner. What's more, these changes were positively associated with an increase in negative psychological symptoms. Thus, it was concluded that other public health management strategies could have been used to better empower individuals to manage their state of health. Finally, the uncertainty and misinformation disseminated by the media in the context of the pandemic also contributed to feelings of stress and fear that culminated in a decline in individuals' mental health, with the necessary implications for their sexual health.
