Abstract

Los conflictos armados, por su carácter extraordinario y violento, atraen la atención de la audiencia y los medios difusores de noticias. Este artículo buscó probar que después del inicio de una guerra existe una mayor demanda de canales televisivos de información, con efectos destacables en los valores de audiencia. Así, se realizó un análisis cuantitativo de los datos de audiencia de tres canales de información portugueses, registrados antes y después del inicio de las guerras de Ucrania-Rusia (2022) y Israel-Hamas (2023). Estos periodos fueron especialmente interesantes, porque los canales estudiados adoptaron una cobertura intensiva y exclusiva (o prácticamente exclusiva), durante semanas, lo que confiere un alto grado de confiabilidad, ya que no hay dudas de que el televidente estaba consumiendo noticias sobre los dos conflictos. Los resultados revelan claramente una correlación entre el inicio de una guerra y el aumento de los valores de audiencia, aún que no son suficientes para una generalización. Los valores noticiosos, como la proximidad, así como el encuadramiento y planificación de los media, parecen ser determinantes, ya que surgieron otros conflictos entre los periodos estudiados (Sudán y Armenia-Azerbaiyán, por ejemplo), que no recibieron la misma cobertura y que no permitirían un análisis similar.
