Filtragem de Kalman Estendida para Transferências Orbitais Interplanetárias

Abstract

The problem of filtering or state estimation involves determining the state variables of the system based on limited information from measurements. The Kalman filter is one of the most well-known tools for state estimation. In this dissertation, the study and successful implementation of the extended Kalman filter were conducted to estimate the state of five interplanetary space missions. For all missions, the errors of the estimated positions and velocities were lower than acceptable error values. The goal was also to determine the impact of noise on the Kalman filter, and it was found that deviations in position and velocity estimated by the EKF with noisy measurements were significantly larger than errors associated with non-noisy measurements, even though with acceptable magnitudes. It was observed that in situations where measurement error is negligible, the state estimation can closely approach the true value. Attempts to find more appropriate covariance matrices revealed that these values significantly impact the estimated data, regardless of the presence of noise in the measurements.
