De Empregado a Empreendedor

Desafios e Estratégias de Transição de Carreira e Primeiro Negócio no Brasil
Authors: Costa, Vianey de Oliveira;

De Empregado a Empreendedor

Abstract

Undertaking is a courage act. Breaking anchors that promote stability and venturing into new and uncertain paths is an act of bravery. It is not easier the decision to quit a stable career, be able to follow-up a dream, a creative idea. As well as being unemployed and choosing to undertake in uncertain and, sometimes, hostile environments instead of returning to the stability of a paid job. This does not seem to be an easy phenomenon to understand, given the numerous variables involved in the decision-making process. In this context, this investigation aims to identify the challenges and strategies that the individual experiences when building a business following a career transition from paid work to entrepreneurship. In addition, knowing the nuances of these paths and how experiences lived during the path impact the building of the first business. This investigation is supported by the Theory of Human Capital proposed by Becker (1962) and the Theory of Effectiveness by Sarasvathy (2001) to seek answers to the research questions. The conceptual model for this research is based on the measurement of entrepreneurial activity used by the GEM-2020. The research is qualitative and data were obtained through semi-structured interviews to Brazilian adults who voluntarily or involuntarily quit their jobs and experienced a career transition to creating their own enterprise. Data were analyzed inductively and deductively using the QSR Nvivo software and axial coding (Strauss and Corbin, 1998). Findings show that in the process of career transition to entrepreneurship, the individual needs to seek to align empirical and academic knowledge to develop technical and managerial skills aimed at the possibility of the undertaking and experimenting entrepreneurial activities while employed in the private sector to know the market and leverage their business ideas.
