Abstract

Improving the production process is an ongoing objective for organizations. Lean Six Sigma (LSS) belongs to the latest range of continuous improvement methodologies and arises from the symbiosis between Lean Thinking and the Six Sigma (SS) approach, to address the weaknesses of both strategies. The LSS focuses on eliminating waste and reducing process variability, through the application of the five-step tool Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) to solve problems that affect the productive process of organizations. The objective of this dissertation is to improve the production process through the implementation of the LSS to a case study, Haco Etiquetas S.A. To this end, there is a characterization and development of a DMAIC cycle to respond to the problem raised. Initially the problem of the organization that we want to be solved is defined. In the case under study, the problem focuses on the production of defective labels, resulting in waste. Then there is a measurement of it. The next phase consists of a cause-effect analysis of the main reason for defects, stipulated in the analysis phase. Subsequently, proposals for improvement are presented, one related to the change in the maintenance strategy and the other on the implementation of an Andon system to the looms. Finally, the control phase appears as the end of this cycle. The LSS is a process improvement approach, comprehensive and continuous, as it provides tools such as the DMAIC cycle, which enable the organization to solve identified problems in a structured way, cementing the steps until the objective of its implementation is achieved.
