Arquitetura & transformação

Abstract

The title Architecture & Transformation refers to the concept of flexibility in architecture, as the ability to change according to the needs, adapting to the evolution of uses and surroundings. The proposal focuses on Alameda da Universidade in Cidade Universitária de Lisboa, seeking to improve the relationship between the campus of the University City and the existing urban fabric of Campo Grande. The proposal adresses the following work scales: The City, The Block, The Building and Uses & Scenarios. Moving from the general to the particular in a logic of thought. Initially an urban strategy was elaborated in order to respond to the population ́s programmatic needs (students and residents) and to solve the identified urban problems. A proposal was elaborated to review the current road system of the C.U.L, restructuring the design the Alameda da Universidade, adjacent lots and the volumes that define them. A proposal for the redesign of a key block (current Horto do Campo Grande) was developed, integrating and giving sense to the existing building. It was also developed a proposal for a building that contributes to the definition of Alameda ́s front/entrance, articulating the language and scale of the Rectory with the historical built front delimiting Campo Grande. The defined programme, as well as the building are divided in two, with the ground floor destined to commerce and restaurants, and the upper volume destined to university housing with the possibility of hosting conventional housing and/or services in the future.
