Paraíso piscina praia

Abstract

This work represents a proposal for the renovation of the Oceanic Swimming Pools Complex at São Pedro de Moel beach, in Marinha Grande, built in 1967. The intervention arises from the opportunity to intervene in a deactivated and awaiting structure, but with high importance and value for the local community in terms of memories and use. Therefore, the intervention proposes a deep architectural remodeling of the Complex, as well as the restructuring of its presence in the town and landscape, in an exercise that intends to respect the pre-existing identity and memory. The production of this work included the compilation and updating of drawn databases, several site visits, consultation of sources (newspapers, websites, chamber archives), as well as the use of project tools (sketch, drawing, model, etc). In order to develop a viable proposal, a survey was conducted of the resident population, also a simplified economic feasibility assessment of different intervention scenarios and a study of the oceanic pools built in Portugal during the 1950-70 period were also carried out. The development of this work thus corresponded to a critical speculation that would participate in a serious way towards the discussion of the future of that place, sustained by knowledge acquired during the course and others gained along the PFM itself, closing this cycle of academic training by returning to a space personally loved and appreciated.
