Design e dislexia:

Authors: Ribeiro, Sofia Aguiar;

Design e dislexia:

Abstract

This research is intended to address the difficulties that children with dyslexia have in mastering the basic abilities to allow a normal and balanced learning process caused by a disturbance in the phonological and orthographic awareness, causing some frustration and feelings of incapacity that can arise in various moments of their life, whether in school, family or social environment. As a research project, a support game for children with dyslexia was created, which addresses their main difficulties and uses visual communication and interaction design strategies to solve them. The use of children as target in this investigation is due to the more and better results in this age group. Therefore, the project is expected to assist the dyslexic in their daily school, social and family development. The methodology used is a mixed based method, in interventionist and non-interventionist methods with a qualitative basis, and a designing character, where a literature review was carried out in order to perceive more about this disturbance and about interaction design, with the intention of relating them to get a better approach. In addition, the Portuguese materials used for this approach were studied, and interviews with professionals in the area were carried out, as an aid to clarify any doubts. After the execution of the project, evaluation questionnaires were carried out for professionals who accompanied children with dyslexia or who were involved in investigations on the subject. Usability tests were also carried out to verify the design and the need for changes. The main beneficiaries of this research will be children with this disorder, although dyslexia centers and institutions may also benefit from this research, by acquiring knowledge and a useful tool for their work.
