Abstract

Procura-se neste trabalho caracterizar os modelos mais importantes na modelização da volatilidade com especial ênfase no modelo ARCH. Concretamente, os objectivos deste trabalho são: i) apresentar os principais resultados já estabelecidos pela teoria dos modelos ARCH; ii) apresentar desenvolvimentos recentes na área dos modelos ARCH (modelo GARCH com alterações estocásticas de regime [Gray(1996)]; iii) apresentar outros modelos concorrentes do modelo ARCH que recentemente tem merecido muita atenção na literatura (modelo de volatilidade estocástica); iv) mostrar afinidades originais entre certos modelos a tempo continuo e as modelos ARCH. O trabalho apresenta-se da seguinte forma. No ponto 2 discutem-se as principais regularidades empíricas das sucessões cronológicas financeiras; no ponto 3 define-se o modelo ARCH e as suas principais derivações e mostra-se em que medida cada um dos modelos pode estimar as principais regularidades empíricas discutidas no ponto 2; nos pontos 4 e 5 discute-se o problema da identificação e da estimação do modelo ARCH; no ponto 6 introduz-se o modele de volatilidade estocástica e mostra-se que o principal problema deste modelo e o da sua estimação; no ponto 7 estabelecem-se algumas comparações originais entre certas equações diferenciais estocásticas e os modelos ARCH. 0 trabalho termina com uma conclusão.
