Determinantes da lealdade às marcas de surf

Abstract

Surfing is a sport inside a very competitive market with a strong focus on brands. As in many other markets, is difficult for companies to not only get customers, but also retain them in long-term. The focus on brand image appears in the literature as an important factor of companies differentiation, which can lead to customer loyalty. This study investigates the determinants of consumer loyalty to surf brands. Through a quantitative study and based on the model developed by Kim et al. (2001) and Nam et al. (2011) we designed a questionnaire addressed to surf consumers in Portugal. In a sample of 287 surf consumers we studied the influence of brand image on loyalty, through their perceptions, choices and personal opinions. Although there were some differences between surfers and not surfers consumers, the brand image turned out to be definitely a strong influencer of loyalty in this market, not being, however, the only one.
