Abstract

ABSTRACT - CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF FLEXURAL DEFORMITY OF DISTAL INTERPHALANGEAL JOINT IN ASININES - The etiology and evolution mechanisms of flexural deformity of distal interphalangeal joint are not well understood and this matter is poorly debated. The bibliography concerning this deformation in Equus asinus is very limited. This work is a summary of the available bibliography about the flexural deformity of distal interphalangeal joint on equine podology aspect and a contribution to knowledge enhance of this deformation in the Equus asinus. The studies presented on this Master thesis are related to information collected in the year 2011 at Nordeste Transmontano, Portugal. During this period, it was often observed this deformation in the asinine population. These studies include a development and analysis of a twenty asinines sample field survey, development and statistical analysis of twelve asinine hoof measurements fill form and histological samples analysis of deep digital flexor tendon, superficial digital flexor tendon, extensor branch of interosseous ligament and common digital extensor tendon from the hindlimbs of two asinine with uni and bilateral presentation of flexural deformity of distal interphalangeal joint.
