Megaestrutura / infraestrutura. Edifício multifuncional

Abstract

This work is meant to justify all the intentions that lead to the development of a bridgebuilding, that links two areas of the city divided by the railway: Rego and the Ressano Garcia’s plan, made out of structural timber. The methodological approach was structured around three main factors: Function, concerning basic human needs; Context, which deals with constrictions of the site; and Construction which relates to the technical aspects of building. A research on theoretical knowledge was made, in order to better understand the concept of Megastructure as a multifunctional building and of an item capable of sewing the urban cloth. The choice of Glued Laminated Timber as a structural and detailing element has proven to be a most interesting study case due to its mechanical properties, visual aspects, and relation to the place the building is inserted in, a planned green strip that would cross the city along the railway.
