Abstract

Objective: Football is a collective sport with technical and tactical complexity, and high physical and psychological demand - it brings together varied actions of an intermittent nature, successively alternating phases of effort and rest - from explosive ones such as sprinting at maximum speed, to low-demand intensities such as walking or standing still (Dolci et al., 2020). Jumping is a type of action with a preponderant factor in soccer goalkeepers. The force-velocity profile is a tool used to assess the ability of the athlete's neuromuscular system in a specific task. This study aims to qualify and quantify the vertical force-velocity profile, in the squat jump, of soccer goalkeepers competing in a semi-professional context (3rd and 4th Portuguese divisions) and to verify whether the profile of the goalkeeper is oriented towards velocity (Hervéou et al., 2018). Method: 10 soccer goalkeepers (4 from the 3rd division and 6 from the 4th division) aged between 17 and 30 years (average 23.40 ± 3.92 years old), with an average height of 1.86 ± 0.04 meters and an average body mass of 86.53 ± 9. 02 kg), performed the vertical jump test, squat jump, according to the protocol (5 sets of 2-3 repetitions in the following order of loads (3 repetitions with no load added; 3 repetitions with a load added of 25% of the athlete's body mass; 3 repetitions with a load added of 50% of the athlete's body mass; 2 repetitions with a load added of 75% of the athlete's body mass and 2 repetitions with a load added of 100% of the athlete's body mass). It was carried out according to the method of Samozino et al. (2008). The jump height and the following mechanical variables used in the vertical force-velocity profile were analysed F0 (N/kg), 𝑉0 (m/s), P0 (W/kg), SFV (N.s.m-1. kg-1), SFVopt (N.s.m-1. kg-1) e FVIMB (%). Results: The results of the study are as follows: SJ, 37.9 ± 5.1 cm; F0, 30.1 ± 3.7 N.kg-1; V0, 4.63 ± 1.84 m.s-1; Pmax, 33.9 ± 10.8 W.kg-1; SFV, -7.41 ± 2.82; FVIMB, 64.70 ± 28.62%. Conclusion: The vertical force-velocity profile of semi-professional goalkeeper tends towards velocity – similar to the result that athletes in other sports where the main physical ability is velocity have.
