Na perspectiva de compreender a realidade actual de Santarém, este projecto parte da busca da história e do papel do Rio Tejo na cidade, de modo a justificar o afastamento entre estes dois elementos. Seja através de fenómenos naturais ou a extinção da necessidade de utilização do rio consequente da modernidade, estamos perante uma cidade ribeirinha que não é ribeirinha. Que rio não se toca, apenas se vê. A identidade perdeu-se e a gente perdeu-se com ela. Abandonada, despovoada, esquecida e expectante, este lugar é visto como uma oportunidade e um dever deste projecto de reconectar a cidade com o rio, através do elemento que os une. A margem. Ao longo desta linha os vestígios de um tempo e de uma cultura são olhados de forma crítica de modo a formarem o ponto de viragem e a devolver a Santarém a sua cidade ribeirinha, o seu Tejo e a sua essência. A redescoberta do passado inscreve-se no futuro projectado para a cidade.

ABSTRACT: In order to understand the current reality of Santarém, this project starts from the search for the history and role of the Tejo river in the city, in order to justify the distance between these two elements. Whether by natural phenomena or the extinction of the need to use the river resulting from modernity, we are facing a riverside city that is not it anymore. The river isn’t touched, just seen. The identity was lost and people were lost with it. Abandoned, depopulated, forgotten and expectant, this place is seen as an opportunity and a duty of this project to reconnect the city with the river, through the element that unites them. The river bank. Along this line, the remains of a time and a culture are looked at critically in order to form the turning point and return Santarém to its riverside city, its Tagus and its essence. The rediscovery of the past is part of the future projected for the city.
