Abstract

The present report was built around the theme of "Child Maltreatment" and aims to analyse which economic characteristics of Portuguese municipalities influence the increase or decrease in the number of children diagnosed in danger by the 310 Commissions for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ), in Portugal. For this purpose, firstly, a review of the existing literature was carried out, which concludes that there is a vast number of sociological studies in the most varied areas of interest. Therefore, the conclusions drawn from these studies and the view of the Ecological Model of Human Development (Bronfenbrenner, 1977) in relation to this theme will be presented. Then, an econometric study was carried out, using Counting Models, Poisson and Negative Binomial, applied to panel data based on the microdata we achieve. The data were group by 302 Portuguese municipalities (i) - some municipalities have more than one CPCJ - between the years 2017-2019 (t).
