In 2018, a trade war started between China and the United States of America - the two biggest world powers - that had negative consequences for both economies. Notwithstanding, the possibility emerged for new players to take upon opportunities generated by the fact that the export price of both China and the USA increased. These players can improve their commercial relationships with China and the USA. In this context, the trade blocs MERCOSUR and ASEAN where analysed. Taking into account the data collected and analysed in this thesis, it is possible to conclude that, although these trade blocs have comparative advantages in some important product categories and their exports to China and the USA have increased in the Trade War period, the truth is that it is not possible to say that this positive dynamic is a consequence of the Trade War. In MERCOSUR's case it is a consequence of world export's positive trend, whereas in ASEAN's case it can be attributed to the growth of its countries' economies.
