A cidade dentro da cidade

Espaço obsoleto como catalisador de rejuvenescimento socioeconómico do Barreiro

A cidade dentro da cidade

Abstract

ABSTRACT:The city of Barreiro is known for its past linked to industry, because it was based on the proto industries, railway infrastructure and the establishment of CUF that the city developed. But with the nationalization of 1975 and the deindustrialization of the 1980s, the Barreiro accompanies the final cycle of the CUF group, becoming a dormitory city with no life of its own and an aging population. Based on this reality comes the intention to elaborate in this final proposal for a master's degree, a strategy of intervention on an urban scale and a project on a detailed scale, in which both aim to increase attractiveness, valorization of the heritage and a greater job offer in Barreiro. It is also proposed the creation of two strategic axes, the historical-cultural axis that unites three areas of the city marked by distinct periods of history: Alburrica, Barreiro velho and CUF, and the integral axis of the municipal green structure that complements the Riverside front. In these two axes, new uses of building and public space will be proposed as well as an intermunicipal cycle, as well as a dynamic space for cultural and commercial activities.
