“Cultura como Centralidade Pública” será o tema deste estudo, mostrando que a cultura local consegue dinamizar parte de um território. O objetivo basilar do estudo é projetar um espaço qualificado que criará consequentemente uma nova centralidade na cidade de S. Tomé. Na sua obra A Política, Aristóteles afirma que “o homem é, naturalmente, um animal político”. No contexto em que esta frase é apresentada ao leitor da obra, pode inferir-se que o homem é feito para viver em sociedade, em que cada homem é incapaz de bastar por si próprio em situações difíceis, e por isso, há em todos os homens uma tendência natural para se associarem em cidades. Com isto pretendo transmitir a ideia de que como acontece em todo o mundo, bem como na cidade de S. Tomé, as pessoas vivem geralmente bem em sociedade e é a partir dessa premissa que pretendo criar um local que proporcione a todas as pessoas, sejam elas de que classe social forem, a possibilidade de conviverem e estarem em contato com a cultura num local agradável e moderno. O designado “Centro Interpretativo das artes Santomenses” pretende criar um laço entre as pessoas e a cultura, permitindo que num só local existam várias infraestruturas desde locais de convívio a locais que promovam a música, a dança , o artesanato e a gastronomia local e que acima de tudo aproximem a população da cultura levando as artes nacionais e internacionais a um público mais vasto. Em suma, pode dizer-se que esta nova centralidade urbana proposta é constituída por espaços públicos qualificados e equipamentos, assente numa perspetiva de fortalecimento das dinâmicas sociais, atraindo a população e revitalizando um espaço cheio de potencial que vai melhorar a qualidade de vida local. O risco da perda da cultura deve ser identificado como um forte constrangimento à afirmação de S.Tomé como destino turístico, ou mesmo, como território Regional, porque um povo necessita de símbolos para a afirmação da sua identidade.

ABSTRACT:“Culture as Public Centrality” will be the theme of the present study, showing that the local culture can streamline part of one territory. The main goal of this study is to project a qualified space that will consequently create a new centrality in the city of S. Tomé. In his work Politics, Aristotle claim that “man is by nature a political animal”. In this book, the quote is presented to the reader meaning that the men is made to live in society, where every men is unable to subsist on his own in hard times, and so, there is in all mens a natural tendency to associate in cities. With this I pretend to show the idea that as it happens in all world, as in the city of S. Tomé, people generally live well in society and it is from this premise that i want to create a place that provides to all people, from every social class, the possibility to live together and to be in direct contact with the local culture in a pleasent and modern place. The designated “Interpretive Center of the São Toméans arts” intend to create a bond between people and the culture, allowing that in just one place people can find a variety of infrastructures that goes from social places to places that promote the music, dance, handicraft and the local gastronomy, that above all bring the population closer to culture by bringing national and international arts to wider audience. In short, it can be said that this proposed new urban centrality consists of qualified public places and equipment, based on a perspetive of strengthening social dynamics, attracting the population and revitalizing a place full of potential that will for sure improve the local quality of life. The risk of culture loss must be identified as a strong constraint in S. Tomé affirmation as a tourist destination, or even as a regional territory, because every population needs symbols to affirm their identity.
