ABSTRACT: Cities represent the evolution of society as well as theiregression. The state of degradation and ruin of one of the most expressive poles of industrial settlement, as is the case of Alcântara, becomes an opportunity to rethink this area and return it to the city. In a territory that was once marked by deep transformations in its urban tissues, with the origin of the landfill, construction of the Porto de Lisboa, the large piping and channeling of the Alcântara riverside and later alteration of the coastline, we witness that relationship between city and river was modified. The present proposal aims at the rehabilitation of a lot, located on the waterfront, in Lisbon, on Av. 24 de Julho. Here, a free area and another occupied by an old factory appear as an expectant space in need of heavily requalification. Manufacturing/Dwelling gains form when approaching the adaptation of new built structures to preexistence. The lack of housing in the city center imposed the decision to create housing spaces, where the theme of programmatic flexibility presents itself as an intervention premises.

As cidades representam a evolução da sociedade tanto como o ser retrocesso. O estado de degradação e ruína de um dos polos mais expressivos de assentamento industrial, como é o caso da zona de Alcântara, torna-se numa oportunidade para repensar esta área e devolvê-la à cidade. Num território que outrora fora marcado por profundas transformações no seu tecido urbano, com a origem do aterro, construção do Porto de Lisboa, encanamento da ribeira de Alcântara e posterior alteração da linha de costa, a relação entre cidade e rio viu-se modificada. A presente proposta visa a reabilitação de um lote, situado na frente ribeirinha de Lisboa, na Av. 24 de Julho. Aqui, uma área livre e outra ocupada por uma antiga fábrica surgem como um espaço expetante a necessitar fortemente de requalificação. Fabricar/Habitar ganha forma ao abordar a adaptação de novas estruturas edificadas a preexistências. A falta de habitação no centro da cidade impôs a decisão de criar espaços habitacionais, onde o tema da flexibilidade programática apresenta-se como uma permissa de intervenção.
