Moinhos do Guadiana

Um percurso pela paisagem
Authors: Baptista, Susana Joía;

Moinhos do Guadiana

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Given a certain unawareness of the culture and countryside of some places in Portugal, namely in the Alentejo region, with this thesis, we pretend to bring forth, interpret and value the “Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana”.
This environment is punctuated with some vernacular structures along the Guadiana River that reflect the human occupation throughout times. These remnants of previous occupations reveal the symbiosis of man and environment in the process of grain transformation and fishing. Focused on these watermills and dam works, this thesis: Moinhos do Guadiana - Um percurso pela Paisagem, proposes a series of paths that transverse this territory as a form of uniting the countryside and the built patrimony as story telling. The proposed architectural intervention creates, in this manner, a path to rediscover these valleys to the rhythm of new uses and experiences.
