Turismo industrial como motor de desenvolvimento urbano

Abstract

ABSTRACT: One of the sectors with the greatest development and impact in the world economy is in the XXI century, namely tourism and its various forms of acting in the territory. Increasingly, the large urban metropolises, the rural areas that after suffering the desertification process, riverside fronts marked by the post-industrial period, are currently the most sought after targets for the growth of this economic sector. In Portugal, the tourism sector has grown steeply, occurring more frequently in places where the climate is slightly warmer, such as the Algarve or others waterfronts. It is also important to emphasize that tourism as a sector of economic and urban growth is dependent on the tourism product that a given territory has to offer. The culture or historical references, customs, built and natural heritage, society, typical regional products, or even the climate, are the most common reasons for the exploitation of this sector, throughout the country. The city of Lisbon and the south bank of the river Tejo are territories whose tourism level is quite high and has contributed with great emphasis to the country's congratulation as the best tourist destination in the world in 2017. According to this ideology and opportunity, the main objective of this project is the rehabilitation and regeneration of the Barreiro riverside frontier, whose post-industrial and railroad heritage are well consolidated throughout the city and, given the degradation of both infrastructure and its own originates some negligence of the population on the preservation of their own culture and of their patrimony.
