Condicionantes na arquitetura

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This final project for the master’s degree concerns a project for a Cruise Ship Terminal foreseen by the Municipal Council of Maputo, Mozambique. The Terminal is to be located in the building which formerly belonged to FACIM – Feira Agro-Pecuária, Comercial e Industrial de Maputo -, on the waterfront. Maputo is one of the East Africa’s Capital cities, endowed by an urban built heritage, which is quite diverse. This encounter with the water plan, belonging to the Indian Ocean, settles ate the same time a link to the old plan of Costa Serrão and that of João António de Aguiar, a vision of contemporary times, as well as a new waterfront which results of a redesign based on urban continuity. The development of the guidelines resulted from an analysis on the available dements, aiming towards the activation of a new urban centre, which is simultaneously characterized by a multifunctional, touristic and leisure driven identity. Being that the urban design parameters and the approach to the built proposal, are framed within the theme of Tropical Architecture.
