Fractais na arquitectura

Abstract

Uma forma de inovar na simplicidade, em Arquitectura, é usar a geometria dos fractais. Uma técnica simples de iterativamente chegar a formas fantásticas e muito agradáveis de integrar no desenho de uma obra de arte: sejam edifícios, pontes, jardins, e outros. Vamos abordar o conceito essencial da geometria dos fractais e analisar exemplos da sua aplicação em edifícios e cidades. Para isso faz-se uma introdução ao tema pelos primórdios da geometria fractal referindo exemplos como o Conjunto de Cantor (de 1880), e o Triângulo de Sierpinski (de 1915). Percorrem-se as propriedades dos fractais e as potencialidades desta geometria e analisam-se exemplos de estudos que demonstram que as cidades, e as urbanizações em geral, apresentam características que podem ser explicadas, cientificamente, pela geometria fractal, fazendo-se um paralelo entre as propriedades dos fractais e as dos padrões urbanos, que são idênticas. As maiores potencialidades desta geometria, em termos arquitectónicos, surge a partir do momento em que é possível gerar computacionalmente fractais (em 1975), cujas formas têm uma beleza incontornável (neste trabalho apresentamos algumas). Através da criatividade e da compreensão da lógica iterativa desta geometria podem-se obter formas aplicáveis a variadíssimos temas da Arquitectura.
