Liderança e comportamentos de cidadania organizacional : a influência no desempenho organizacional

Abstract

The organizational society is immersed in an environment which is characterized by a growing level of demanding, requiring more and more effort from its cooperators to develop organizational objectives. Associated to organizational performance, it is in this realm that leaders assume a fundamental role, with transformational and transactional leadership emphasized in literature. Studies evince a thigh relation between the above mentioned leadership styles, organizational performance and organizational citizenship behavior, acting as an antecedent and consequence, respectively. In this context, this dissertation intends to investigate the relation between transformational (LT) and transactional (LTr) leadership, organizational citizenship behavior (CCO) and organizational performance (DO) at the District Headquarters of Public Security Police in Faro (CD Faro). Quantitative methodology was used, namely by means of survey research with questionnaires, and data collections was conducted in six police units in CD Faro. The response rate was 51%, with the sample comprising 289 individuals performing police functions, from chief career to police officer, who are mostly male, 92%, aged 40 and above, 73%. According to what is defended in literature, the obtained results show the existence of a significantly positive relation between the studied variables, as well as a mediator effect of some organizational citizenship behaviors in the relation between transformational and transactional leadership styles and organizational performance.
