Writing about school failure is almost the same as reflecting upon society and civic participation of each citizen, considering the implications that our iniciatives or absences produce in what we want to our future, therefore the complexity of the subject and the need of finding a methodology wich gives an answer to the main issue, in the context of the terms previously determined for the present work. To this purpose, we tried to analyse the concept, then we not only described tendencies and interpretative theories, but also studies produced in Portugal where the school system, with particular composition, resources and procedures, exposed to a mass process, only late saw consecrated the finantial effort that other States member had already achieved. Since school failure is especially a school one and concerns the pupil/student, it extinguishes the interaction between school and the pupil/student himself- otherwise it would be a familiar, social or political failure - we characterized the actors and the factors that interact inthe different process of school learning, namely the pupil/student, while a child or an adolescent in transformation, and school itself, family and the involving community, as an extent oflove, learning, socialization and citizenship. Because school is in the essence of this failure and, with it, the competition of the mass media, there is a pressing need to actualize the school we have and propose, unpretensiously, same suggestions in order to provide a different meaning to school - more profound for the pupil/student than for teachers and other school agents. Finally, after a reflexion about school systems and failure, some questionnaires were carefully worked out, sintable to school system in force, and to the principal aim of this essay.
Escrever sobre o insucesso escolar é quase que reflectir sobre a sociedade e a participação cívica de cada cidadão, atentas às implicações que as iniciativas ou ausências de cada um de nós tem no que desejamos construir, donde a complexidade do tema e a necessidade de estabelecer uma metodologia que procure responder ao essencial, no contexto das condicionantes previamente estabelecidas para este trabalho. Para o efeito, procedeu-se à análise do conceito, descreveram-se as correntes e teorias interpretativas e os estudos realizados em Portugal, que têm um sistema escolar com estrutura, recursos e procedimentos específicos e que, sujeito a urn processo de massificação, só tardiamente viu consagrado o esforço financeiro que outros Estados membros ja tinham concretizado. Uma vez que o insucesso escolar é acima de tudo escolar e diz respeito ao aluno, extingue a interacção entre a escola e o aluno - doutro modo seria familiar, social ou poliíico - caracterizaram-se os actores e factores que interagem nos processos de aprendizagem escolar, nomeadamente o aluno, enquanto criança e jovem em desenvolvimento, e a escola, família e comunidade envolvente, enquanto espaços de afectividade, aprendizagem, socialização e cidadania. Porque no cerne do insucesso está a escola e com esta concorrem os meios de comunicação social é, pois, preciso actualizar a Escola que temos e propor, modestamente, algumas correções tendo em vista contribuir para que a escola seja mais para os alunos e menos para os professores e restantes agentes. Finalmente, reflectidos os sistemas e o insucesso escolar construiram-se os questionários, ajustados ao Sistema Escolar em vigor, e objectivo, deste estudo.
