Abstract

A presente dissertação diz respeito a um projeto de caráter prático inserido do âmbito do design de equipamento médico. O seu principal objetivo prendeu-se com o desenvolvimento de um dispositivo de suporte corporal para microcirurgia oftalmológica que optimizasse a postura do cirurgião e atenuasse os sintomas de fadiga experienciados durante a tarefa cirúrgica. O processo de investigação teve o seu início com a análise postural conduzida no bloco operatório da ala de oftalmologia dos Hospitais da Universidade de Coimbra (HUC), feita em profissionais de saúde durante procedimentos microcirúrgicos, com e sem utilização de microscópio. Com recurso ao RULA (Rapid Upper Lim Asssessment), identificaram-se os fatores de risco associados às estratégias posturais adotadas pelos cirurgiões e estudaram-se soluções para minimizar os problemas encontrados. Com base numa abordagem biónica, propôs-se um conceito centrado na sistematização dos mecanismos da coluna vertebral humana, materializado através da execução do protótipo funcional. O teste piloto, também este conduzido nos HUC com a colaboração de uma equipa de cirurgiões, compreendeu um processo de design iterativo que se desenrolou ao longo sete semanas. A par do teste, estruturou-se um estudo exploratório que visou a recolha de dados em suporte áudio e vídeo, bem como de dados eletromiográficos, em duas condições: a) com a utilização do assento de cirurgia comum e b) com a utilização do dispositivo de suporte corporal desenvolvido. Procedeu-se posteriormente ao processamento e análise dos dados recolhidos, informação que se triangulou com a percepção dos cirurgiões participantes da investigação captada em entrevistas, no sentido de pré-validar o conceito desenvolvido. O estudo culmina numa nova proposta de produto, reflexo do trabalho multidisciplinar desenvolvido com especialistas de áreas diversas como a engenharia, ergonomia, cinesiologia e o design de produto.

ABSTRACT : This dissertation concerns to a practical project inserted in the medical equipment design field. Its main goal was the development a body support device for ophthalmic microsurgery that could improve surgeon’s posture and attenuate the symptoms of fatigue experienced during the surgical task. The research process began with the postural analysis process, conducted in the operating theatre of ophthalmology department at Hospitals of University of Coimbra (HUC), and applied to health professionals performing microsurgical procedures with and without using a microscope. Using the RULA method (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment), the risk factors associated with the postural strategies adopted by surgeons were identified and several solutions were studied to minimize the problems found. Based on a bionics approach, we proposed a concept centered on the systematization of the mechanisms of the human spine, materialized through the implementation of a working prototype. The pilot test also conducted at HUC, and with the collaboration of a team of surgeons, included an iterative design process that lasted seven weeks. Alongside the test it was structured an exploratory study that aimed to collect data in audio and video support, as well as electromyography data in two conditions: a) using the common surgery stool and b) using the developed body support device. We then proceeded to the collected data processing and analysis that we triangulated with the perception of surgeons participating in the research captured in interviews, in order to pre-validate the concept developed. The study ends in a proposed new product, reflecting the multidisciplinary work developed with experts from diverse fields such as engineering, ergonomics, kinesiology and product design.
