Construir no construído

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The project is developed in the place of the one-time hospital Miguel Bombarda, expectant for a new image in the city. The analysis and comprehension of the historical, formal, social and cultural context allowed us to identify the relation between memory and identity of the place with the surrounding. For the project exercise it was arise some questions about the way of manipulate the limits between the intervention area and the surroundings, with the objective in the existent public space continuity. The opportunity in the old hospital, in outcome of a revival intervention, is explored in this work beginning with the concept of the border line drew by the wall around the terrain. The main concept developed is about border spaces, in their social and morphological relations. The theme approach begun, in a first point, with the revival concept, as an understanding of the place in the city. Afterwards, we studied concepts and definitions about public space as a catalyst of an urban intervention. The investigation and the intervention proposal were focused in the limit line of the terrain, in the border space. The project reached two main points. Firstly, the comprehension of the relations in the public space between the proposal and the surroundings. One the other hand, the project of a building localized in the wall line, searching a formal continuity to the dense fence; as well to reach the local needs, by a multifunctional building for public use. The main questions evidence the importance in the comprehension of the intervention zones in relation with the surroundings. The search of new outstanding elements, as the wall for example, settle the border space as an opportunity in the handling of the urban relations in public space.
