Empresas multinacionais e I&D : a indústria automóvel na U.E.

Abstract

The concept of multinational enterprises (MNC) has evolved in recent decades, much the fault of the work of Bartlett & Ghoshall (1998). It is based on that work that we seek to realize what kind of organization the companies in the automotive industry have, given the complexity inherent in it's value chain and the way they develop their innovation processes in particular through R&D activities can be considered transnational corporations. R&D has undergone several strategic changes, as more and more MNC have their geographically dispersed units to meet local market needs. R&D is particularly important in the automotive industry because it allows their companies to develop or improve their products, it's production process and organizational methods. As the industry companies are those that invest most in R&D in the EU, along with a set of geographic and skilled workforce characteristics may allow the industry to be the engine of innovation in the region. Suppliers play an important role in this respect, but the brunt of spending on industrial R&D lies with the producers, so it is from them that an analysis that will realize that variables have the greatest influence on the expenditure on R&D will be held in the automotive industry.
