Abstract

This paper aims at the financial analysis of a Portuguese company (Grupo Jerónimo Martins) and the study of the impact of the crisis both in the financial position or its performance. Besides, a comparison is performed with the industry also studying the impact of this crisis in its performance. The analysis of financial ratios shows that it has a stable financial structure. Although the values of the liquidity may indicate pressure in the treasury, the Group generated cash flow, and presents very favorable cash cycles. The Group is in financial balance and despite the crisis, has improved its net returns. The Group stands out though on the matter of the sector, both in terms of returns that are more attractive by submitting either a better financial structure. There was statistical evidence that some ratios suffer deterioration in the years of crisis, verifying that the Group was most affected when it comes to liquidity. In the industry, the trend is the same except the acid-test ratio and return on assets, and in the second case, the Group performs better. Therefore, although some ratios have undergone some changes, it appears that Jerónimo Martins managed to respond well to the effects of the crisis.
