Adaptabilidade e efermeridade

Authors: Barradas, Ana Sofia Soares Henriques Vieira;

Adaptabilidade e efermeridade

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This final Masters project is presented following the described in the Projeto VI class, in which the intent is to restore a small palace in Largo do Intendente, in Lisbon. The rehabilitation of this palace, reintegrating and maintaining the pre-existent facade, giving continuity between the new and old expressions, bestowing onto it a contemporary use, with emphasis on making the surrounding area more dynamic, has the purpose of making it more socially interactive, helping to promote the socio cultural development between the temporary residents and the permanent residents. The goal is the development of an ever changing building that changes its appearance, much like chameleons in nature, not to mold itself to its surroundings, but to be compatible with the uses that residents might seek. A building that can be redesigned and personalized, but at the same time reversible. Initially slated as a temporary housing, gifted with modular and ephemeral characteristics that, permit its adaptation and conversion to new uses. A building prepared for cultural events like, concerts, expos, film projects, and works of theatre or even conferences, making it a cultural beacon, strengthening the socio economic development of the surrounding area. The intent is to reflect upon the challenges of contemporary housing and characteristics analysis of buildings defined as adaptable housing. The project will focus on the exploration of perception between space and light, colour and matter, as an instrument of projectural methodology development.
