Abstract

As dificuldades manifestadas pelos alunos da cadeira de Ortopedia e Traumatologia, em conseguirem material de estudo didáctico, actualizado e de fácil consulta; as constantes questões colocadas pelos colegas do lnternato Geral que frequentam as enfermarias de Traumatologia; e as dúvidas manifestadas pelos colegas Clínicos Gerais que frequentemente enviam traumatizados para os Centros Ortopédicos, levaram à elaboração deste trabalho. Expõe-se a melhor forma de assistir um traumatizado no local do acidente, como reanimá-lo e como transportá-lo. Relembram-se as medidas salvadoras e descrevem-se os diversos tipos de imobilização provisória dos membros. Procura-se informar o Clínico Geral sobre o que pode fazer e como proceder na evacuação dos casos que ultrapassam a sua capacidade de resolução. Descrevem-se as sequelas mais frequentes das fracturas que o Clínico Geral encontra na sua prática clínica quotidiana, quer nos hospitais onde trabalha, quer nos Serviços Médico-Sociais e Centros de Saúde. Por fim, expõem-se de forma didáctica, rnuitas vezes recorrendo a desenhos de fácil compreensão, as possibilidades terapêuticas actuais das fracturas e luxações das cinturas e dos membros superior e inferior.
