Abstract

Nas últimas décadas a água da chuva tem sido o objeto de um intenso estudo hidrogeoquímico. A determinação da sua composição possibilita a identificação dos diversos componentes que influenciam as suas propriedades químicas, contribuindo para uma melhor compreensão da dispersão local e regional de elementos, naturais ou poluentes, bem como o seu potencial impacto nos sistemas hidrológicos através de processos de deposição. A formação da água da chuva ocorre através da evaporação de massas de água (oceanos, rios, lagos) que condensam na atmosfera, formando nuvens. A sua composição química resulta da interação entre gotas de água, gases e partículas sólidas presentes na atmosfera, conhecidas como aerossóis. Essa composição exibe uma grande variação tanto geográfica quanto temporal, influenciada por padrões de circulação atmosférica e, principalmente, por emissões locais para a atmosfera, sejam elas de origem natural ou antropogénica.
