Abstract

O magnetismo é parte de uma interação fundamental da Natureza que, por exemplo, inclui fenómenos de atração e de repulsão entre materiais. Na realidade, o magnetismo e a eletricidade estão profundamente relacionados entre si, e as observações e estudos ao longo de anos permitiram construir a sua base teórica do eletromagnetismo, sendo disso exemplos: os estudos do físico dinamarquês Hans Christian Ørsted em que uma corrente elétrica contínua (DC) pode desviar a orientação da agulha magnética de uma bússola colocada nas suas proximidades, demonstrando que os fenómenos elétricos e magnéticos estavam ligados entre si; ou as conclusões do físico e químico britânico Michael Faraday que observou a indução eletromagnética em que um campo magnético variável no tempo produz/induz corrente elétrica em materiais condutores. Estes e outros trabalhos permitiram chegar-se às leis físicas básicas do eletromagnetismo conhecidas como as equações de Maxwell.
