Esta dissertação visa avaliar a perceção da população da ilha de São Miguel, relativamente à existência de fenómenos de discriminação no mercado de trabalho, nomeadamente as desigualdades salariais entre homens e mulheres, bem como desigualdades no processo de promoção no emprego. Para este efeito foi realizado um inquérito por questionário a 200 indivíduos residentes na ilha de São Miguel Açores. Os resultados obtidos apontam para a perceção de que existe discriminação no mercado de trabalho, sendo as mulheres as que mais concordam que esse fenómeno existe, quer em termos salariais quer em termos das promoções no emprego.
ABSTRACT: This dissertation evaluates the perception of the population from Saint Michael Island, related to the existence of gender discrimination in labour market, namely wage discrimination as well as inequalities in the process of job promotion. For this purpose, we conducted a questionnaire to 200 individuals living in Saint Michael, Azores. The results indicate towards a perception that there exists discrimination in labour market, being that such a perception is more evident among women both in terms wages and job promotion.
