Abstract

...É reconhecido que o combate às doenças e pragas agrícolas assume uma importância crucial, particularmente nos ecossistemas insulares, e que a sua concretização requer a participação proactiva dos especialistas em diversas áreas científicas, dos vários serviços oficiais (Governo Regional e Autarquias), das associações não-governamentais e da comunidade em geral. Nesta actividade é primordial o estudo das cadeias tróficas, em que as várias espécies animais, algumas das quais são espécies ou subespécies endémicas do arquipélago açórico e que, apesar de tudo, devem merecer a devida cautela na sua conservação, pois os repovoamentos sucessivos ou a exploração cinegética continuada podem conduzir à sua extinção. A consequente perda desse património natural e único constituirá um revés definitivo para a biodiversidade dos ecossistemas dos Açores. Outras espécies deverão ser encaradas de maneira diferente, pois foram introduzidas pelo homem, casos do pardal e dos ratos; sendo espécies generalistas, oportunistas e comensais vieram alterar sobremaneira as interacções entre o meio biótico e abiótico, existentes antes da sua introdução...
