A literatura de viagens é um género ainda pouco estudado do ponto de vista teórico, mas que tem grande interesse documental, sobretudo em épocas em que os naturais do país visitado não registavam a sua realidade quotidiana. Os relatos dos viajantes estrangeiros são importantes tanto em relação à novidade que constavam como à diferença em termos da sua cultura de origem, que muitas vezes condiciona o seu ponto de vista.

ABSTRACT: Travel literature is a genre still little studied in theoretical terms, but which has a great documentary interest, chiefly in times when the natives of the visited country did not register their daily reality. Foreign travellers' reports are important both in what concerns the novelty they rind as the difference from their original culture, which often conditions their point of view.
