Reforma, voluntariado e envelhecimento

Abstract

As alterações demográficas registadas na maioria dos países ocidentais reflectemse no prolongamento do tempo de vida com um estado de saúde que não limita gravemente a participação na vida social. Após a passagem à reforma (anterior marco de entrada na velhice), os indivíduos são forçados a reorganizar o tempo outrora estruturado pelo tempo de trabalho e sabese, hoje, que os modos de viver a reforma são relativamente diversos. Dependem, contudo, dos recursos de que os indivíduos dispõem e das condições sociais à sua volta. Se é certo que alguns reformados conseguem escapar à “reforma morte-social” e ao estigma de inutilidade, investindo o seu tempo, competências e experiência em actividades socialmente úteis, não é menos verdade que, no nosso país em particular, esta oportunidade está longe de ser acessível a todos os que poderiam nela investir. Com o objectivo de contribuir para intervenções destinadas a ampliar as oportunidades dos reformados, procuramos compreender as interacções entre reforma, voluntariado e envelhecimento, construindo o nosso referencial teórico em torno destes três termos. O trabalho culmina na elaboração de um instrumento de observação destinado a testar as hipóteses formuladas graças ao trabalho de problematização e a um estudo exploratório realizado junto de voluntários hospitalares e de voluntários indicados por um Banco de Voluntariado.
