Relatório de estágio em ultrassonografia cardíaca

Abstract

Introduction This internship report addresses the applicability of cardiac ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of various cardiovascular conditions, with an emphasis on imaging techniques and their evolution over the years. It contextualizes the relevance of ultrasound in current medicine, especially in light of recent technological advancements. Objective As part of the Master's in Clinical Physiology, the cardiac ultrasound internship aims to analyze demographic and echocardiographic variables, as well as to present and discuss 2 clinically relevant case studies from examinations performed at the Hospital Distrital da Figueira da Foz. Results Regarding the study population, the sample consisted of 218 patients, and data were collected from 217 transthoracic echocardiograms and 1 transesophageal echocardiogram. Additionally, 2 case studies were analyzed, using echocardiography as a complementary diagnostic tool: an 86-year-old man with clinical consistent with cardiac tamponade and a 62-year-old woman with suspected patent foramen ovale. Discussion The analysis of the sample showed that the most frequently found pathological echocardiographic alterations refer to male gender over 60 years of age. The 2 case studies presented illustrate the practical applicability of the techniques covered, demonstrating their usefulness in real clinical contexts. Relatório de estágio em ultrassonografia cardíaca Conclusion This study highlights the relevance of echocardiography as an essential tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac diseases, as well as its contribution to the advancement of cardiology and medicine in general.
