Abstract

A infeção sinovial pode apresentar diferentes origens, sendo que a via hematógena é a mais comum em poldros, traumatismos por corpos estranhos penetrantes e causas iatrogénicas, como cirurgias e administrações intra-articulares. A infeção articular não apresenta predisposição racial, idade ou sexo. O diagnóstico da artrite sética faz-se com base nos sinais clínicos demonstrados pelo animal e na patologia clínica do líquido sinovial. O equino apresenta supressão de apoio no membro afetado, originando claudicação, podendo causar aumento ou não da temperatura regional do membro, edema da articulação, entre outros sinais clínicos. Esta dissertação de mestrado surge com o objetivo de realizar uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a anatomia e fisiologia das estruturas articulares, etiologias, métodos e técnicas de diagnóstico, bem como as diferentes estratégias terapêuticas para corrigir e minimizar o impacto da ocorrência desta patologia com especial referência a novas alternativas e metodologias de tratamento, atendendo ao fato de que esta patologia tem forte representação na clínica de equinos. O objetivo geral do trabalho é apresentar os principais impactos que a artrite sética pode ocasionar em equinos atletas, mediante uma revisão bibliográfica baseada em artigos científicos e pesquisas referentes ao tema.
