Abstract

Sustainable development integrates economic development, so it is important to see it as an important organizational strategy. The concept of sustainability has gained force, whether by integration of attitudes and socially responsible actions within organizations, or by growing demand communicating what is sustainable and has been developed. So these have contributed to the increase in the number of sustainability reports published by organizations. The Construction industry has been contracting in recent years because of the economic crisis felt all over the world. The characteristics of the industry caused to emerge a new strategy based on the triple pillars of sustainability; essential to foster organizations development in economic, environmental and social aspects. A difference can also be made at the level of the product, in this case the buildings. The materials may provide high standards of sustainability, thereby making them more attractive and desirable to buyers. Reporting on sustainability, in the construction industry will increase every year, but given the characteristics of the industry, it will need to provide indicators that better reflect progress in economic, environmental and social development in this sector.
